R05 Financial Protection

This syllabus is broadly a reflection of the CF3 syllabus.  The syllabus is quite specific and requires at least 60 hours of study if you are new to the subject.  For those who are just gap filling, do not underestimate the time you will need to spend on it.  There are parts of it which visit areas which are not always in the toolkit of some advisers or planners.

The syllabus covers:

  • The key issues which drive the need for financial protection
  • The key features of life assurance, both term assurance and whole life
  • The taxation treatment of life assurance policies both in the hands of the polivyholder and the life company
  • The key features and taxation aspects of critical illness policies
  • The key features of income protection insurance
  • The key features of long term care plans and the drivers which are important in determining the need for long term care
  • The main aspects of ASU, PAS, MPPI and PMI
  • A brief overview of business insurance including key person, share protection and partnership protection

The examination will comprise 50 multi choice questions.  The time allowed will be one hour. Complementary learning material is available when students elect to sign up for access to our multi choice question bank.
