R02 Investment Principles & Risk

This syllabus is broadly a reflection of the old SV1 syllabus, brought up to date with topics such as behavioural finance.  The syllabus is very broad and requires at least 60 hours of study if you are new to the subject.  For those who are just gap filling, do not underestimate the time you will need to spend on it.  There are parts of it which visit areas which once learned for an examination are quickly forgotten.

The syllabus covers:

  • Analysis of the characteristics, inherent risks, behaviour and correlation of asset classes
  • Understanding of the macro-economic envrionment and its impact on asset classes
  • Understanding of the merits and limitations of the main investment theories
  • Application of the principles of time value of money
  • Analysis and explanation of the nature and impact of the main types of risk on investment performance
  • Analysis of the various investment products
  • Application of the investment advice process
  • Understanding of the principles of investment planning
  • Analysis of the performance of investments

The examination will comprise 100 questions, 66 of which are multi choice and 34 are multi response  .  The time allowed will be two hours. Complementary learning material is available when students elect to sign up for access to our multi choice question bank.

Our question bank contains examination standard questions and includes a gap test to benchmark knowledge at outset in addition to randomised tests for each of the chapters in the CII manual.  There are several mock examinations to finish off your learning as well.  When a student enrols for the subject they will also recieve a complementary set of key facts sheets which will act as an aide memoire.  Please allow 24 hours after you have enrolled for full activation
